West Coaster updated their San Diego brewing industry watch list today, with the list up to 59 licensed brew houses operating in San Diego County. 59! 14 of those (give or take one for poor counting skills) opened up in 2012, and it looks like up to half a dozen more possibly debuting this year alone. Pretty awesome. Makes you wonder how a certain overrated men's lifestyle magazine managed to keep San Diego off their top 5 beer cities list this year.* Not that I'm bitter. On the other hand, not like it matters. There's no doubt among people who know that San Diego is one of America's greatest beer cities. There's also plenty of room for excellence in craft brewing here and around the country. It isn't a race and it isn't a war, except perhaps in the spirit of Shel Silverstein's "Hug O War." With some liberties (and apologies): where everyone brews, and everyone grins, and everyone drinks, and everyone wins.
